Ricordi & Sfera
Ricordi & Sfera
Eating food is important for everyone - that is the fact from which our story
begins. Kyoto, Japan's ancient capital, is known for having cultivated aesthetics
over the centuries.
Ricordi, a restaurant offering traditional regional food, opened in 1995. Enoteca
Ricordi Sala V.I.P., a wine and food bar, opened in 2000. We use plates made from
carefully selected materials, and are enthusiastic about tablewares and dining
spaces. Our tableware range is based on the desire to provoke a range of life
scenes during the dining period.
In 2003, we set up three more shops - "SeseragiSfera", a Japanese restaurant,
"SferaShop", for new lifestyle suggestions, and "SferaExhibition/SferaArchive",
an exhibition space with book and CD salons, an eating area and a tableware and
comprehensive lifestyle zone. Designs for the shops were commissioned from Claesson
Koivisto Rune, a Swedish architectural practice, who also undertook renovation
of the "SferaBuilding".
Ricordi & Sfera move from table to space, and then to life itself. This
highlights the traditions of the ancient capital, and of Japanese aesthetics more
widely, but our deepest philosophy is to retain those traditional sensibilities
while exploring a contemporary aesthetics. We hope to turn these concept into
forms.
