Wrapping - kimono design by Markus Mostrom -
|
 |
|
Markus Mostrom is one of the budding graphic designers
and he created design of leaf patterns typified by the
facade of our Sfera Building that opened in 2003. We
have discussed mutual viewpoints of Swedish and Japanese
people and differences of both cultures with Markus
and a Swedish architect group, Claesson Koivisto Rune,
and explored the design that reflects both. This Kimono
Exhibition would be one of the integrated forms of these
discussions which expresses Japan in theme of traditional
symbol 'kimono' with graphic patterned work by a Swedish
point of view which is similar to that of Japanese one.
By venturing to take up the folk dress with complex
rule or regulation to wear, we'd like to challenge potentials
of 'kimono' over our nationality. Based on a prospect
in his words like; " I want the pattern work to be a
result of experience, experiment and intuition", his
personal view as graphic designer who doesn't have roots
is woven in his work, and the influence of both cultures
is reflected with his original viewpoint and touch toward
kimono. Jacquard by a Swedish long-established textile
maker other than Japanese chirimen as material we'd
like to explore the wide-ranging concept of kimono from
traditional to modern style that can adapt to our lifestyle.
We hope this experiment will cause you to review the
difference and relationship between Japan and Sweden
and find out the new value toward 'kimono' in modern
times.
