Cutting-edge Swedish architectural team Claeson Kosivisto Rune (Marten Claesson,
Eero Koivisto, Ola Rune) have designed the newly renovated Sfera Building exterior
and its wholly refurbished three-floor interior. Ten years on from their debut
oeuvre Villa Wabi, this new re-encounter with Japan finds them realising a whole
new facet to their architectural vision here in Gion.
The ground floor Seseragi Sfera is colour-keynoted in traditional Japanese vermilion
with touches of green inspired by the plantings around the building, a Swedish
take on Japanese aesthetics.
The first floor Sfera Shop has been designed to accentuate a full array of products
with ample display and retail space.
The second floor Sfera Archive and Sfera Exhibition Space shows their command
of spatial forms to optimum advantage.
In their homeland Sweden, where Claeson Kosivisto Rune have won top honours in
the coveted Sweden Design Awards almost every year for the last decade and their
many built projects prove continually topical, a major daily newspaper ran full-page
coverage of the long awaited unveiling of this Project .
