Contrast

The Contrast project redefines the relationship between person and object. Something well worth re-visiting, the series that spawned from the mind of designer Ichiro Iwasaki and Sfera attempts to create forms from the very essence of the material.

Each and every item in the range is enveloped in a delicate form. Not just simple, but also with forms that give consideration to the behavioral patterns of the user, the products have a warmth of character that springs from within to create a certain ambiance, allowing them to blend with ease into contemporary life.

First announced at the 2004 Salone del Mobile, Milan. Distributed and sold throughout Europe. Also available in Japan from 30th October, 2008, as part of a new development.

‘-Much importance is placed on forms with fingertip sensations. In designing daily-use commodities like these, comfort must some before function. I like to observe people’s routine behaviour.

Ichiro Iwasaki

Born, 1965, Tokyo, Japan. Entered Sony Design Center in1986; carried out various development projects in car audio systems, and TVs for the European market. Left Sony in 1991 and moved to Milan where he worked in product design. Returned to Japan and established IWASAKI DESIGN STUDIO in 1995. Attracted attention at launch of ‘MUTECH’ audio range, in whose product design he was involved.　Currently involved with an array of products, from tableware to information tools such as mobile phones and digital cameras.

AROMA

The espresso maker is seen by some as a permanent part of the daily landscape of necessities. The Aroma, having been designed to fit perfectly into the day-to-day living space, has been the subject of great attention amongst Italian buyers. With its beautiful forms and functionality that surpass logic, the Aroma is highly symbolic of the Contrast range. Its title was inspired by the scent that comes with enjoying an espresso. Winner of the 2007 Reddot prize.

ICE

For the hand used to a perfectly circular glass, the impulsive pleasantness of the gentle forms of Ice are what makes it unique. Amidst a mass of perfectly formed, modern glasses, Ice is intended to be used in the same nonchalant vain that casual clothing is worn. The nature of Ice is such that it has a personal feel to it. It is a glass that blends effortlessly into the daily scene.
